THE HIKE TO EAGLE PEAK ABOVE YOSEMITE FALLS
If you stay overnight at the top of Yosemite Falls, there is a wonderful day hike you can take to the view atop Eagle Peak. You can also reach the top of Eagle Peak in a very long and strenuous day hike from Yosemite Valley beginning at the trailhead to Upper Yosemite Falls behind Camp 4. After going up steeply for 3.5 miles, you reach a junction where you can turn right to go to the Yosemite Falls overlook, straight ahead to cross the bridge and up to Yosemite Point, or you can bear to the left toward the trail to Eagle Peak. Go about 15 minutes and turn left again. This brings you up the northeast side of the hill which lies directly to the west of Yosemite Creek. Make sure you get water before going up this hill, there is no reliable water source the rest of the way to Eagle Peak. Another 2 miles or so further and you will reach a junction where you turn left and hike uphill to the the summit of Eagle Peak. This last stretch of 20 to 40 minutes will leave you quite breathless, but well rewarded when you scramble up the boulders and revel in the view and lack of people.
Please be patient, there are many panoramic photos that will take longer than usual to load on your screen.
